“As a junior at Duke, I built my GCS experience around my research in protein engineering to improve drug delivery and a minor in economics to focus on how medical research interacts with health care policy and delivery. Summer experiences such as volunteering for Save the Children UK through DukeEngage and working as a paralegal at a patent law firm provided insight on different spheres where technology and policy intersect. Such experiences as a Grand Challenges Scholar gave me a wide perspective on different policy initiatives and scientific research to deliver affordable and accessible care both domestically and abroad. These insights informed my decision to pursue a doctorate with research focused on using statistical machine learning methods to better analyze medical data and inform decision making processes.”
