"I knew as soon as I heard about the Grand Challenges Scholars Program as a college freshman that I wanted to be a scholar and I planned accordingly. Working on my application inspired me to pursue a broad range of opportunities and to push my boundaries: GCSP led me to conduct genomics research at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, to pursue an entrepreneurial venture producing affordable, rapid STI testing, and to teach low-income elementary school children about health and nutrition. The research that I conducted as a GCSP scholar informed my decision to pursue a career in biomedical research and to get my PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins."
