Biography

“As an emerging engineer, the Grand Challenges Scholar Program (GCSP) encouraged me to develop skills outside of my major. In 2016, I began working as a First Year Seminar Assistant where I was able to support the first year engineering students with their transition to college. Through this position I gained knowledge as to how these students received and responded to certain assignments and activities. Mentoring these students propelled me to broaden my leadership wisdom by stepping up to become the President of my university's student chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Through these experiences, and many others that were sparked by the GCSP, I formed numerous connections with professors outside of my major. My GCSP project, Application of Shape Memory Polymers for Compression Sealed Bridge Joints, gave me knowledge as to the specific causes of bridge joint failure. As I begin my career, I will take this intellect with me to restore pieces of infrastructure.”
