Luciano Huapaya will be joining the Peace Corps as a Community Health Facilitator in October 2019.
“I am grateful for the growth and opportunity the Grand Challenge Scholars Program has given me throughout my time as an undergraduate. I had chosen health because I aspire to bring change in the health care industry through public, private, and non-profit organizations to help families who come from impoverished backgrounds. Thanks to the program, I was blessed to become involved and gain valuable experience as a Biomedical Intern with the nonprofit organization called Project C.U.R.E., be a Biomedical Engineering Intern for the Peruvian University of Applied Science, and be able to complete a literature review of the Lack of Prenatal Healthcare in Third World Countries for my Undergraduate Honors Thesis.
These experiences have helped me obtain a position with Matrix Energy Services Inc. as a Field Surveyor where I collect data for the California Energy Commission. In the future, I will be a Community Health Facilitator for the Peace Corps. On October 2019, I will be volunteering in The Gambia, Africa for 27 months helping with establishing preventive community programs focused on improving prenatal healthcare in the country.
After my service, I wish to work in the Medical Industry or obtain a graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering.”
