“My GCSP project Computational design of novel brain stimulation paradigms focused on the Grand Challenge of reverse-engineering the brain. I worked in the laboratory of Angel Peterchev, PhD at Duke in which we used finite element modeling to study the biophysical effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation used in neuroscience research and as a therapy for neuropsychiatric disorders. My experience in GCSP inspired me to continue pursuing research at the interface between engineering and neuroscience. Now, as an MD/PhD student, I use network science and machine learning to understand brain dynamics during seizures and develop new therapies for patients with epilepsy.”
