“Under the guidance of Dr. Palmer and Dr. Dewhirst, I devised an apparatus to dynamically image in vivo the cancerous tissue environment using dorsal window chambers on mice without anesthesia. Throughout this project, I was able to take the initiative and collaborate with others to come up with new solutions. Various elements of being a Grand Challenge scholar including an interdisciplinary curriculum, an entrepreneurial component, a global perspective, and service learning have shown me how to better integrate my research into developing a tangible solution. This experience has given me a solid foundation in research and I have continued working with physicians and researchers from Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Michigan since graduation. As a medical school student, I will be continuously engaged in more clinical research.”
