Biography

“GCSP gave me the opportunity to learn what it takes to become a leader in the field. Through my research in studying the impact of shear stress on the protein expression of the lymphatic endothelial cells, I was able to publish a thesis on how the underlying mechanics, the study of force and motion in matter, drives the biological behavior of these cells and how such knowledge can be used to engineer better medicines, which is one of the grand challenges. This mindset, combined with my passion to study the heart, allowed me to transition into studying the molecular changes occurring to the heart as a result of altered cardiac mechanics, due to heart failure, for my graduate work. Furthermore, with the entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary avenues bestowed by this program, I can utilize such knowledge to evaluate cardiac devices and motivate the development of sounder device solutions, enhancing the quality of life for patients.”
