Olin College of Engineering, 2015, B.S. Engineering w/Emphasis in Bioengineering

“For my GCSP portfolio, I studied the ways in which my bioengineering degree was truly "Engineering for People". In this program, I was able to reflect on my values and ensure that the projects I chose in my classes meaningfully connected my values to the salient end result of helping people. After graduating as a Grand Challenge Scholar, I transitioned to a research position at Massachusetts General Hospital where I built diagnostic devices for diseases that currently have a high mortality rate, related, in part, to difficulty in early diagnosis. In this way, I was able to continue to engage in significant work to benefit as many people as possible. In writing the portfolio, I realized that I wanted to be able to connect with clinical patients and conduct novel research on diseases in a lab setting, leading me to apply to Medical Scientist Training Programs (MSTP). I now am a student at the University of Illinois MSTP. GCSP truly set me on the path that I am on today.”
