The Grand Challenges for Engineering have been reviewed by individuals chosen for their diverse perspectives and technical expertise, in accordance with procedures approved by the National Research Council Report Review Committee.
The purpose of this independent review was to provide candid, critical comments to assist NAE in making the published conclusions as sound as possible and to ensure that they meet institutional standards of objectivity, evidence, and responsiveness to the study charge. The review comments and the draft manuscript remain confidential to protect the integrity of the deliberative process.
The NAE Executive Office appointed the following NAE members to oversee the review:
Thomas Budinger [NAE/Institute of Medicine (IOM)], University of California, Berkeley W. Dale Compton (NAE), Purdue University Charles Elachi (NAE), Jet Propulsion Laboratory Wm. A. Wulf (NAE), University of Virginia.
These review monitors were responsible for ensuring that the independent review was carried out in accordance with institutional procedures and that all review comments were carefully considered.
